We're
sick of our needs being overlooked, from a lack of accessibility to Government
Disability Supports Programs that discriminate against those who get married or
supply income support at levels well below the poverty line. To dealing with those in our lives who never take our unique needs into
consideration. Many expect us to visit their homes or even businesses during
the winter time yet don't clear their properties of snow & ice.
To UberEats drivers thinking it's okay to park quickly in an accessible parking
space to grab someone's food the common excuse being I will be 2 minutes.
Acting as if we should be fine having to wait when we're already sick of
waiting - waiting for our needs to matter, waiting for the Government to
provide those with disabilities who can't work with a livable amount of income
support, waiting for the claw backs and discrimination against those with
disabilities receiving income support who get married to end. I think
we're all sick of waiting.
Just think how frustrating it is that many of the issues we face never receive
any coverage even by the media who claims to fight for inclusion and equality
yet doesn't care about the issues affecting those with disabilities. Again it's
as if we don't matter.
Right now it's people with disabilities fighting and raising awareness but no
one is joining us and that's what is holding us back. So many people just sit
back and accept things the way they are for people with disabilities then fight
for other groups speaking up on TV or through social media posts demanding
change. All I am saying is when will our needs start to matter?
We need allies in the fight for accessibility and for fair treatment of people
with disabilities in need of income support. How in the world can anyone accept
the fact that people with disabilities are being discriminated against simply
for being in a relationship or getting married. Still no one is bothered by
that?
The facts are things will never change unless people start joining us in the
fight for accessibility, for fair treatment in marriage, for adequate income
support from those with disabilities unable to work and employment
opportunities for those who can and want to.
The general public thinks we have life easy ignorantly believing everything gets
handed to us, honestly the only people with disabilities who often have it made
are those who come from wealthy families. Sadly even they don't understand the
struggle others with disabilities face. Believe me I know some with huge
platforms yet they never raise awareness and honestly seem to not care about
the needs of others with disabilities.
In the end for change to come we all need to work together as only then will
the needs of people with disabilities start to matter.
